Bowdoin Climate Action is a group of dedicated student activists working to build popular support for climate action – on campus, in Maine, and nationwide. Because we believe that it is inherently antithetical to the purpose of institutions of higher education to profit from climate catastrophe, we’ve been building power on campus through a campaign for fossil fuel divestment since the fall of 2012, calling on Bowdoin College to divest its endowment from the top 200 fossil fuel companies. Alongside our work on divestment, we’ve organized around the stopping the Keystone XL pipeline, against the Central Maine Power rate hikes on renewable energy, and for national action at the People’s Climate March in September of 2014.
Bowdoin has long been dedicated to the common good. Fighting for the planet, then, is common sense.
Join us in calling for Bowdoin–and colleges, cities, pension funds, and religious institutions everywhere–divest from the fossil fuel industry, and reinvest in our future!
